Dr. Vijay Nema currently working as Scientist ‘D’ at National AIDS Research Institute (NARI), Pune, India. He has got a diverse experience in the field of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. In his present position, he is the In-charge of Department of Molecular Biology and is working primarily on conservation pattern of existing and new targets of drugs in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Metagenomic analysis of patient samples for screening and impact assessment of microbial populations. Apart from this he works in the area of Development of new diagnostic tools for AIDS-related infections (bacterial, parasitic and mycobacterial infections) etc. He did his masters in Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology from Dr. H.S. Gour University Sagar in 2001 and worked as a research scholar for a year. He worked on isolation and characterization of PUFA producing fungi there. In 2002, he joined Defence R&D Establishment, Gwalior, India as a research fellow and obtained his doctoral degree from Jiwaji University, Gwalior, India in 2007 working on various bacterial species and toxins of defence importance. He did his post-doctoral work at Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences, (Formerly Institute of Life Sciences) Hyderabad, India and worked on new drug discovery and vaccine development against M. tuberculosis and Anticancer compound screening using various cell lines. He did a short term Post-Doctoral training at Computational Structural Biology, Vanderbilt University, USA under Fogarty international postdoctoral fellowship. He is an author of a number of manuscripts, sequence submissions and a patent. Currently, he is a principal investigator of two projects and supporting few others as co-investigator. He holds editorial positions in various journals and is a member of few scientific communities of repute.
